Mushroom grow bags, grow kits and cultivation supplies
Mushroom Grow Bags and Supplies for Gourmet Mushroom Cultivation
Buy mushroom grow bags online from a shop that states what is inside each one. All-in-one bags have the spawn sealed in the same bag. Empty 4 mil filter-patch bags are for growers who fill and sterilise their own. Kits arrive ready to fruit, and the spawn and substrate here cover the grow after that.

what is in the bag
Shop Quality Mushroom Grow Supplies
A mushroom grow bag is the container, the filter and the growing medium at once. So the bag you pick decides how much work is left for you. Every product in the shop is filed by the stage it arrives in. That is the difference between misting a box on the counter and firing up a pressure cooker in the garage.
Kits ship fully colonised. An all-in-one bag holds sterilised substrate and a sealed pocket of grain spawn. Break the pocket, knead it through, then cut the bag open to fruit. Sterilised substrate bags are the same block with no spawn inside, for growers who inoculate their own. Empty filter-patch bags contain nothing but the bag. Inoculation rates, temperature bands, filter type and realistic flush counts are printed on every page.

Find the Right Mushroom Growing Kit
Match a kit to the room you actually have, not to the mushroom you most want to eat. Blue, golden and pink oyster kits forgive uneven temperature and dry air. That is what most first grows do to a block anyway. Lion’s mane wants steadier humidity and supplemented hardwood. Reishi and shiitake are patient: slower pins, longer flushes, far less attention.
Each kit is a 3.5 lb colonised block in a vented kraft box, with a fruiting window and a printed grow card for that species. A spray bottle is the only tool it asks for. To choose by experience instead of appetite, the best mushroom growing kit for beginners page lists the ones that keep going when you forget them. The oyster and lion’s mane pages collect every format we stock for those two species.

What the Specs on Our Mushroom Grow Bags Mean
Four numbers decide whether mushroom grow bags suit your setup: film thickness, filter patch, filled weight and how the top closes. Everything we stock is polypropylene – 4 mil on the 3 lb and 5 lb sizes, 5 mil with two patches on the 10 lb bags. Thinner film costs less per bag and shows it the first time you carry a wet block to the tub. Every size is rated for steam sterilisation at 15 PSI, and every one will take a boiling-water pasteurisation instead if you grow on straw or on a mix you will use within days.
The top is heat-sealable, which is the part people skip. Fold, then seal with an impulse sealer; a hair straightener works, and an iron on low with the fan off works if you keep it moving. A clip is fine for incubating grain and poor for a colonising block in a living room, because gas walks straight through the gap. Cut a window or burn a hole and the micropore tape and filter patch bundle is the repair: two rolls of paper tape and twenty-five 4 inch patches, and paper micropore passes gas while holding spores out.
For why a bran or soy-hull mix has to be sterilised rather than pasteurised, FreshCap’s guide to mushroom substrates walks the same 15 PSI protocol we print on our own product pages.

sizing and yield
Sizing and Yield Math for Mushroom Grow Bags
Buy mushroom grow bags by shelf space, not by enthusiasm. A 5 lb bag is the size that fits a 66 quart fruiting tub two to four deep and still gives a first flush you can eat before it turns. Our 3 lb mushroom grow bags suit grain work or a straw mix and give one meal, and the 10 lb mushroom grow bags are for filling several at once in a vessel that can hold them: plan 3 to 3.5 hours at 15 PSI for a saturated 10 lb bag, against 2 to 2.5 hours per 5 lb bag. Longer is safer than rushed.
Substrate is sold dry for a reason. One 10 lb bag of Master’s Mix hydrates to roughly 22 to 24 lb of wet mix, which fills four 5 lb mushroom grow bags or two of the 10 lb ones. So a first setup is four bags, a tub, a spray bottle and a scale, not a drum of pellets and a wall of shelving. You are aiming for field capacity: damp and heavy, a few drops escaping when you squeeze a handful hard, never a stream.
Expectations are the other half of the maths. A colonised kit block fruits within one to three weeks of the lid being opened and usually gives one or two more flushes over the following month, about two weeks apart while the block stays damp. A 5 lb all-in-one bag colonises in 10 to 18 days at 68-75°F before you cut it open, so the calendar to a first flush is roughly three weeks. Those are ranges from our own shelves, not promises.

Storing and Handling Mushroom Grow Bags at Home
Empty mushroom grow bags keep for a long time in a dry box out of direct sun, and a stack of unused bags is the only spare a grower needs. The patch adhesive is the part that ages, so a shelf above a radiator is the worst place in the house for a stack of them. Filled and sterilised bags want to be inoculated the day they cool to room temperature, because a warm, wet, soy-hull-rich block is excellent food for mould as well as for mycelium, and the window between cool and colonised is where grows get lost.
When a bag colonises and then stalls
If mushroom grow bags fill out white and then sit still, the usual cause is a room that is too warm and too still: hold 68-75°F for colonisation, then drop a few degrees and add fresh air once pins appear. If the film balloons, the patch is blocked – paint overspray and house dust seal a micropore just as well as tape. Cut a small window in the bag, cover it with paper micropore tape and give the block a day of indirect light. Most stalled grows emailed to us are an airflow problem, not a contamination problem.
A colonised block can wait for you, briefly: up to two weeks in a cool room, or about a week in the fridge, before a first flush starts to shrink. Between flushes keep the bag cool and damp rather than warm and wet, and give fresh air as soon as pins are visible. Most first-flush failures at home are stale air, not contamination – which is the honest reason a 66 quart tub with drilled holes and filter patches does more for a grow than a second set of mushroom grow bags does.
Why buy here
Why Choose MycoGrowShop.com?
Honest product tiers
Kits, all-in-one bags, sterile substrate, colonised blocks and empty bags are listed separately, so you know exactly what stage you are buying.
Species-matched substrates
Lion's mane and shiitake get supplemented hardwood; oysters do well on straw. We never sell a one-size block.
No inflated promises
Nothing here is labelled contamination-proof, guaranteed to fruit or guaranteed to yield a set weight. You get realistic ranges instead.
Support after the sale
Email or call with a photo of your block. Slow colonisation, dry caps, pin aborts - we have seen all of them.
How we describe products
We list the boring details because they decide the harvest
A grow kit is a living thing in a box. The useful questions are dull ones: what is the substrate, what temperature does this species fruit at, how big is the bag, how many flushes are typical. Those answers decide whether you eat mushrooms or compost a block.
- Species, substrate formula, bag size and filter type on every page
- Fruiting temperature range and expected timeline, stated as ranges
- Clear flags for what is colonised, what is sterile and what is empty
- Realistic flush counts, never a promised kilo number
We would rather lose a sale to an honest sentence than win it and lose the grower.
ordering and shipping
Shop Mushroom Grow Bags Online
Shipping is flat $25 anywhere in the US and free once a subtotal passes $500. Dispatch is usually inside one to two business days. There is a $125 minimum order, because a single 5 lb bag travels badly in a big box. The cart shows what is left to reach it. Empty bags, grain spawn, a still-air box or a sack of Master’s Mix are all things you will use again.
Buy mushroom grow bags online by tier, not by thumbnail. All-in-one mushroom grow bags are the shortest path to a flush, and grow bags and blocks suit growers who already have a culture. Substrate and grain spawn cover the grow after this one. The FAQs answer the questions that decide whether a grow works. Stuck between two options? Email [email protected] or call +1 970-909-8532 with a photo of the space.
grow bag questions
What buyers ask before the first flush
Are mushroom grow bags sterile when they arrive?
Empty filter-patch bags are clean and flat-packed, not sterile. You fill them, heat-seal the top and sterilise at 15 PSI. Sterilised substrate bags and all-in-one bags are heat-sterilised before sealing, so only inoculating is left to you. Kits and colonised blocks are already running with mycelium.
What size mushroom grow bag should a beginner start with?
Five pounds. That size gives a real first flush, fits a 66 quart tub or a tent shelf, and stays small enough to carry while wet. Three pound bags suit grain or a straw mix, and 10 lb bags are for filling several at once. A grow kit skips the question, because the block arrives sealed in its own box.
Do I need a pressure cooker for mushroom grow bags?
Only for empty bags you fill with supplemented sawdust, which want 2 to 2.5 hours at 15 PSI per 5 lb bag. Kits, all-in-one bags and colonised blocks need no pressure vessel at all. Straw-based mixes can be pasteurised in a 140-160°F water bath instead.
How long does a grow bag take to fruit?
A colonised kit shows pins within a week of opening the lid and is harvested one to three weeks in. An all-in-one bag colonises in 10 to 18 days at 68-75°F, then fruits about a week later. A second flush usually follows two weeks after that.
How many flushes do I get from one bag?
Most 5 lb bags and 3.5 lb blocks give one heavy flush and a lighter second. Oysters sometimes manage a third. Keep the substrate damp, rest it for a week between flushes and expect each one to be smaller than the last. Nothing here is sold as guaranteed to fruit.
What do I do with a finished grow bag?
Cut the bag open and break the spent substrate into a compost heap or a raised bed. It is mostly hardwood sawdust, bran and mycelium, so it keeps breaking down like any woody compost. Polypropylene film is rarely accepted in curbside recycling.
How many mushroom grow bags fit in one fruiting tub?
Two to four 5 lb bags, side by side, in a 66 quart clear tub with a lid. That tub is sold as the standard fruiting chamber for two to four five-pound blocks: six drilled air holes and two 4 inch filter patches already fitted. A 10 lb bag wants a shelf in a tent rather than a tub.
Do the empty mushroom grow bags come with a filter patch?
Yes. The 3 lb and 5 lb bags carry one round micropore patch, the 10 lb bags carry two, and the injection-port bags add a self-healing port for liquid culture on top of the patch. Gas exchange happens through the patch; nothing else in the bag is filter media.
